Oh yeah, advertising.

I’ve been so caught up in the interesting news du jour, I forgot I’m an AD chick, not a NEWS chick.  So, how about this for small town clients?   After years of good work, a seemingly solid relationship and positive results, the client calls me up and says, “We’re going in a different direction”.  I say, “So you’re firing me?” “Well, we’re just going in a different direction.”  Uh-Huh.  The PR Bitch in a MUCH larger market must have a tongue piercing…but I digress.  (Hey, I have SEEN her work – it sucks. Seriously average. Plus, we never got invited to compete with the new project and he let it go on for months, leaving us to wonder what the hell was up. Poorly handled, Mr. CEO)

So I move on.  Clients do come and go.   THEN, I get a Facebook Friend Request…from this guy.  Are you serious?

Yeah, I’m bitter.

You ride a Harley and don’t already have one? I thought they came with the bike.

Phillybikeboy: HA! No way. It looks like it would hurt. No out of the ordinary piercings for me. But the tattoo idea…I’m considering it.

The appropriate ending to this story is that, after six months of enduring her subpar work, they come crawling back to you. It all depends on whether their collective ego trumps their business sense, of course. As ham-handed as the FB request is, it’s still an olive branch of sorts.

And as far as the tongue javelin goes…ick.

  4. Teenie Says:

“Going in another direction” usually means something’s seriously screwed up and they’re replacing the captain after the ship’s already been torpedoed.

May have saved you lots of headaches, in the end!

Translation: “This other firm undercut your fee by 50%.”

i like it better when clients come, go… and then come crawling back, because the people who undercut me disappointed them.

Dave-You’re right….maybe I will get this client back….Once I got into it with a client, he fired me and I fired him back and slammed the phone down. I was wildly pissed…2 years later, we’ve kissed and made up and it’s never been better. Thanks for the comment!
